Did you get a new iPhone, iPad or iPod touch for the holidays? Then chances are you’re wondering which Apps you should grab from the App Store first. There are literally over 1 Million Apps in the App Store and you could easily find dozens or hundreds of Apps to install every time you look. However, here are 10 to get you started right away.

YouTube

When the iPhone first came out Apple had a built-in version of YouTube. However, those days are gone now. If you want to watch YouTube videos on your iDevice then the best thing to do is download the YouTube App. You can sign into your account and see your favorites, uploads, subscriptions, etc. It’s way better than the built-in App ever was.

Hey! Be sure to check out my YouTube channel here.

Google Maps

Your new iDevice has Apple Maps built-in and while Apple Maps has improved since its initial launch, it still pales by comparison of Google Maps. Google Maps will give you turn-by-turn directions and many many many more points of interest.

Navigon USA

Google Maps is great, but if you’re looking for a full featured gps turn-by-turn navigation App that doesn’t rely on a constant data connection, then you should check out the Navigon line of Apps. Navigon is full featured with downloadable maps so that you don’t have to be constantly connected to the internet while you’re driving, especially through spotty rural areas.

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

If you’re the least bit into social media then you’re going to want the top three social networking Apps right off the bat. There are many others, but these are the three people are going to want right away.

Get them here:

Facebook iTunes.

Twitter iTunes.

Instagram iTunes.

Although the Twitter App above is FREE, my favorite Twitter App is Tweetbot for iPhone . and here for iPad .

PicPlayPost and Flipagram

Speaking of social, you’re probably going to be posting lots of pics online too from all your holiday activities. PicPlayPost allows you to combine multiple photos/video together and Flipagram allows you to combine multiple photos together in a slideshow.

Apple Remote

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that if you got an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that you also have iTunes running on a computer somewhere or an Apple TV. If that’s the case you’re definitely going to want to get Apple Remote. This App allows you to remote control your Apple TV or iTunes on your computer wirelessly via WiFi. This latest update even controls iTunes Radio!

1Password

In this world of hacking and identity theft, having and managing good passwords couldn’t be more important. My absolute favorite password manager is 1Password. It can not only manage all your passwords and logons for your various sites, but it can store other sensitive info such as credit card numbers, secure notes, serial numbers and more. It can also help you by generating random, long, secure passwords and then remember them. If you have a Mac or PC you can also get the Mac or PC version and sync the encrypted 1Password file so that your passwords are up to date on all your devices.

Open Table and OneTap Movies

Dinner and a Movie tonight? This is a common date scenario. Well these two Apps will help you tremendously in this area. Open Table will show you restaurants in your area that have tables available and even let you book your reservation right on the spot. OneTap Movies is still my favorite for being the FASTEST app and simply answering the question what times are the movies playing that I want to see at my local theater?

Taxi Magic and Uber

If you’re traveling and you are in need of being picked up and dropped off, then you’ll definitely want to check out Taxi Magic and Uber. Taxi Magic actually ties into the taxi booking system in several major cities and allows you to schedule a taxi pickup right from the App. If you’re in a area that they’re not setup for direct booking, it will list the taxi companies in the area and let you call them. Uber takes it up a notch by letting you summon a “black car” or “suv” to pick you up and drop you off. Both apps allow you to pay right from the App.

Temple Run 2

OK, it’s fun time. There are more games on the App Store than probably any other category. So you’ll always have your source for entertainment. Temple Run 2 is an addictive game where you control the character running at top speed through a maze of obstacles.
